Look Inside The Book

Alla Tsybikova (1951-1998)
is one of the most important artists of the 20th century in Buryatia (Russia, Eastern Siberia). She was awarded with such titles as "Honorable artist of Russia" (posthumously, which was unusual) and "Honorable artist of Buryatia", won several prizes and prestigious awards during Soviet times, yet, these facts are not the measure of her talent and uniqueness.

Tsybikova remained true to herself and to her artistic principles and didn’t give in to changes of “political winds”, trends, etc. (sometimes they call such artists “non-conformists,” but it always implies non-figurative art (if the term is used in relationship to Soviet art. Tsybikova always worked in figurative art.)

She was very talented and accomplished as a person and artist, creating many art works that brought her popular recognition despite the fact that her works were rarely exhibited in Buryatia. She also was very eloquent and unbiased as an art critic. She left a lot extremely interesting and deep comments re. her own art and also some observations re. development of Buryat/Soviet art, notes re. life, people, dignity, truth, happiness.

She not merely searched, she accomplished her journey - full circle in life and art - and it is reflected in her art.

The album provides readers/viewers with an opportunity to discover the artistic/spiritual world/quest of a genuine person, to enjoy communication with the artist without (almost without) interference of interpretations by the art critics, etc. The only interpretation is the order of art works and letters which are not chronological in the album, but rather, logical. It is organized as an intimate conversation with a trusted friend, or with oneself, as a talk on the most important private issues. It is conceived as Tsybikova’s monologue with a reader/spectator and unfolds from one of her last works to “history” of her development as an artist, to her take on life and art.
